The most important aspect of my time abroad was exploring Sydney as much as I possibly could. Whenever there was time, taking day trips to areas all over the city to explore the urban environment and natural beauty of Australia was an amazing experience. I particularly enjoyed visiting as many of the Sydney beaches as I could and loved taking the ferries all over the city.
HOW DID YOU ENGAGE WITH THE LOCAL COMMUNITY WHILE ABROAD?
In one of our classes, Locating Social Inequity, we had the opportunity to go and explore a Sydney suburb of our choosing and write about what we had observed. I thought this was one of the most immersive ways I was able to engage with the local community. Going to my chosen suburb allowed me to talk to locals, which allowed me to learn more about the local community than I would have been able to otherwise.
